I wonder just how many of these analysts/journalists have ever gone somehwere else outside the Hyatt in those foregin countries? Try going 25 miles outside of Seoul and try to make a simple pay phone call, and in a highly industrialized city no less. It is not simple, it is not easy unless you have the calling card of the counrty or an account there or alot of coins in your pocket and you speak the language well. I can travel 45 minutes from my house in San Diego into Mexico and NOT be able to place a call back to my house less than 50 miles away without ALOT of hassle and problems. If I had a giant position in a tech stock and the market had decided to take a dump, I sure as heck would pay $2k to salvage the postion and sell rather than miss this while playing golf in Mexico. Globalstar makes money at something like 500k subscribers. I can see that many in the world in remote places that would use this. For example, on the cruise ship I was on last week, they had SAT phones wihch cost $9.50 a minute. I can see them using Globalstar phones wiht a main trunk capability to provide the same service at much less. Alot of lines out there at 1500 people per cruise ship. And all the ship to shore guys on boats. Emergency crews which are on places like oil rigs, any type of ocean going ship, remote land based services. How about a package in all cars which has a single module which has cellular, HDR, and gloabalstar all packaged togeher in a single module. You use the regular link when it is lower cost and the higher cost sat link when you really want to get thru or really need help. Imagine Onstar using it. Imagine Onstar working in Mexico, where if you have an accident, they automatically put you in jail and hold you for bond without giving you a telephone call. Your option is pay up or die. I just think the analysts/journalists are terribily myopic in their exposure to real world telecommunications needs.
