Mohan,

The assumptions to any study (even in hard sciences) may be tweaked. But, if they are published, the author of the study may be accused of fibbing if and only if the data was massaged to come to a predetermined conclusion when the assumptions are applied. (If the assumptions are not published it is a different story altogether, of course.) If data was not massaged and assumptions used are clearly published, the conclusions reached are not untrue by any means whatsoever. The assumptions may be shot down, but that's all.

Hey, don't you have a PhD? You should be well aware of these things!
