I think Thomas Mercer-Hursh's post on this subject couldn't have been said any better. The survey of portfolios that occurred recently supports his conclusion that there is no one single style that is actually practiced by thread members. This variety of styles should be celebrated since it's a sign there isn't groupthink. On the other hand, as Thomas put it, the most valuable aspect of this thread is in trying to evaluate companies based upon the same stringent criteria.

The thing that causes some confusion is that the style of gorilla gaming that's actually discussed in the book (buying the basket of stocks in a gorilla game where the gorilla remains unclear and then consolidating into the gorilla over time as it becomes clear) is generally not practiced here. Rather than participate in the early market during which the gorilla has not yet emerged, most people generally like to observe it at a distance and dissect the beast to inspect it's DNA before investing their hard-earned cash.

If you want to talk about ELON, or some other company which is in the midst of a gorilla game but can't yet be confirmed, there are two other threads when it's more on topic.

Hi Bob,

I am also new to the board and I think what you are talking about is when a new enabling technology comes around and is in the tornado stage with no clear gorilla,moore suggests to buy a basket of companies involved in the technology and hence benefit from the tornado stage with the additional benefit of having the gorilla in that basket once things become more clear.
