Scumbria - <Transmeta is a joke. >

I prognosticated this to one of my more paranoid Intel friends just this weekend, after he mailed me the Transmeta website link.

I forgive him though, he's just doing his job (being paranoid :0). And I'm sure somebody at Intel is being paid just to be paranoid about Transmeta. Good insurance.

re:AMD engineering has been anything but inept for many years now. MIPS and Motorola do not make x86 processors. Transmeta is a joke. VIA will probably give everyone fits by selling computers at very low prices.

I agree re AMD engineering, I am VERY impressed with the Athlon and will probably get one after this strike date. I put Mips and Mot in there because they "could" decide to enter the fray, not likely, but just as a note about the extensive engineering and process talent present in other companies. Transmeta to me is an unknown variable, and Via... well there is a very large market for lower speed grades in asia/subcontinent.

Scumbria,

<Transmeta is a joke.>

I don't yet know enough about Transmeta to know if it is "joke" or not but I gotto tell you - I am dismayed by the comments of some analysts saying this is a threat to Intel and AMD. One has to be pretty disconnected from the goings on in this business to be making statements like that.

P.S.: I am curious as hell to see if they find a niche though...
