Did anyone else see the "Sixty Minutes" story on MTBE last night? MTBE is an additive to gasoline in high-pollution areas of the country, expected to reduce air pollution from burning gasoline. The problem is it's causing pollution of ground water from leaking gasoline tanks. It's much more soluable in water than just gasoline, thus rainfall carries it into ground water supplies much quicker than other petroleum products. If the situation is as serious as presented on "Sixty-Minutes", refineries(and of course Big Oil), could be facing years of law-suits and pollution cleanup costs. I'm not sure if this will affect OSX and E&P stocks, but it would sure make me be hesitant to invest in the downstream portion of the industry now.
