Mike, again, I have to say, maybe luck that certain events happened at all, but beyond that, Thread awareness was not luck--people here excel at being on top of events in the relevant sectors. The debate and analysis that ensued was not luck either, nor the conclusions drawn therefrom (sorry-- legal talk, old lawyer habits die hard <g>). I will bow out now, quit while I am ahead, as they say.
Regards to all and thanks for the time, Lynn

>> As the person who brought the importance of Qualcomm's deal with Ericsson to this thread

I will be eternally grateful for post #833, Merlin.

>> We were lucky

Sure were, but in all fairness, the Silverback strategy we developed would have worked pretty well, even without Q:

Old Gorilla 12/31/98 12/31/99 % Return
msft 69.34375 116.75 68.4%
intc 59.28125 82.3125 38.9%
csco 46.40625 107.125 130.8%

A portfolio invested equally in the three Silverbacks at the end of 1998 would have returned 79.4% by the end of 1999. Not exactly the double we were looking for, but definitely not chopped liver <g>.

We were lucky.

Someone once said luck is the residue of preparation. We were lucky, true, but we were prepared to take advantage of the luck when it came along.
