From the third quarter report: "In our industrial segment, we are working to improve the performance of Spectra-Physics Lasers (SPLI), a subsidiary of Spectra-Physics AB. We expect SPLI to yield positive results as it focuses on high-growth opportunities in telecommunications." --Earl R. Lewis, President & CEO I'm not sure what kind of performance he meant, but this guy is clearly a man of his word. In response to Bob's question, SPLI and THI investors are just two different animals. BTW, who's Mr. Buffett? <g> WT

Stake in FLIR (hot opto play) From the amended Schedule 13D filed 8/19/99 by Thermo: Item 5.  &nbsp  Interest in Securities of the Issuer [FLIR Systems Inc].   &nbsp  Item 5 is hereby amended and restated in its entirety as follows:   &nbsp  (a) The Shares beneficially owned by the Reporting Person consist of 4,162,000 Shares, or approximately 29.4% of the outstanding Shares, owned by Spectra-Physics AB. To the knowledge of the Reporting Person, the executive officers and directors of the Reporting Person beneficially own no Shares.   &nbsp  ..... flir.com FLIR at $18 is only worth a crummy 5/8 point to THI.
