Better Than Expected Revenue Forecasted for the December Quarter

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA (Jan. 18, 2000) -- Silicon Graphics, Inc. (NYSE:
SGI) announced that, based on a preliminary analysis of its results for the
quarter ending December 31, 1999, it expects to report revenue of
approximately $640 million, compared to $685 million in the quarter ended
December 31, 1998. The company expects to report operating results just
short of breakeven.

"Our strong revenue forecast for the December quarter
demonstrates the progress we are making in stabilizing our
business environment," said Bob Bishop, chairman and chief
executive officer. "Our commitment to SGI's installed base and
our continued focus on technical computing is beginning to
produce results."

These statements regarding estimated results are preliminary and based on
partial information and management assumptions. The company expects to
announce its actual results for the quarter on January 24, 2000.
