Yes.. "they can change the rules by introducing something proprietary and getting it accepted by the market place". Market dominance helps immensely when one wants to get something "accepted by the market place". I honestly don't know if JDSU (or ETEK or SDLI) are selling proprietary stuff or not or if they can control the market arena enough to be able to do this. Are their customers calling the shots/specs or are the suppliers? I would tend to think their customers (NT/LU etc..) are calling the shots right now (i.e. JDSU is supplying components to a spec). In the mean time I am watching the fiber optic industry with much interest concerning these questions.
