I guess I am one of these left wing types, but I am opposed to double taxation of corporations. I think it is absurd to subsidize businesses to locate in a state (like DB in Alabama or BMW in South Carolina) and tax all resident businesses to pay the subsidies. I think the corporate income tax should be eliminated altogether. I think consumption should be taxed (value added). The average individual faced with a tax on his consumption would save more, particularly if the return on his savings and investments were not taxed. Why should only unsuccessful businesses have their taxes eliminated. This is why I say failure is rewarded and success is punished.
I want business all over the world to grow more rapidly. It is easy to show that taxes come out of workers earnings one way or another. If there is a bigger world product (as a result of the stimulation of investment from tax changes) then the same amount of taxes can be collected from the consumers and workers and they will still end up better off than in the present system which penalizes investments. Let me assure you there is no logical or economic defect in this global analysis. Obviously, every country would attempt to tweak the system so that they gain more than their fair share. The way to do this is not to burder trade with tariffs.
