SCUMbria - Re: "It is pretty clear now that AMD has arrived. Since the Nexgen acquisition a few years back they have made very fast progress, and are now a serious force in the industry."

AMD has always been a serious force in the industry.

AMD's problem has been that they have been, largely, an UNSUCCESSFUL force in the industry.

Right now, AMD has a device arguably competitive with Intel's best and they just posted a profit for the first time in 12 months.

This is IDENTICAL to the situation that existed in April, 1997, when AMD introduced their K6-shooter and also posted a profit after a string of 4 or 5 quarterly losses.

If you can see the future, more power to you, because I can't.

AMD may blow Intel to Kingdom Come - but the smart money is betting that AMD is AMD is AMD - and that puts AMD directly in Intel's cross hairs - again.

Intel carries a pretty big gun and lots of ammunition.

And AMD has a big X painted on its chest.
