I am in this one too, and today's news is interesting.

But, I have been shopping online for an upcoming backpacking trip, and other sites like REI, campmor and sierra trading post offer better assortment and prices. I bought lots of stuff from them, nothing at "the dog".

Hope the news causes a pop, I think I will take the $$$ and run.

Surveys Point to Fogdog Winning the War for Online
Sporting Goods Supremacy

Fortune Magazine Names Fogdog Fourth Best Web Store Overall

The war among Web-based sporting goods retailers is fierce. New
sites are popping up all the time with different concepts to capture
consumer attention. But what really sells merchandise on Internet
sites, according to a recent Fortune Magazine survey by "a SWAT team
of e-analysts" who stress-tested the top 50 shopping sites in all
categories, is easy navigation and excellent customer service. Above
all, Internet-only sporting goods retailer Fogdog Sports (Nasdaq:FOGD.O)
is the leader in its category.
The study, conducted during the 1999 holiday season, rated the
sites on ease of navigation, product presentation, customer service
and shipping. Overall, Fogdog (www.fogdog.com), ranked ahead of such
giants as Amazon.com (Nasdaq:AMZN), Lands' End (NYSE:LE.N) and
REI.com. None of Fogdog's sporting goods category competitors was
included. The study supports the belief of e-commerce analysts that a
convenient shopping experience with superior customer service is the
final word in e-tailing. "The battle among sports e-commerce sites may
be won at the little-people level: customer service," writes Noah
Liberman, a Street and Smith's Sportsbusiness Journal columnist who
listed Fogdog's recently published customer service standards as a
model.
"This kind of independent endorsement proves again that the
celebrities at Fogdog are the everyday players on our team of sports
consultants who bring customer service to the highest level," said Tim
Harrington, CEO.

"They are the true stars of our company."

Fogdog has consistently ranked as the leading sporting goods site
in visitors and is the only sporting goods site in Media Metrix's
Internet Top 100 shopping sites based on traffic. In addition, Fogdog
has received a number of awards this year that recognize its
commitment to consumers. The Gomez Advisors Spring 2000 Sports Store
Scorecard rated Fogdog the best overall sporting goods site and ranked
Fogdog as the best place to shop in all four of Gomez.com's customer
profile categories. Sports Trend magazine recently selected Fogdog as
"Trendsetter of the Year" in the Virtual Retailer category. Fogdog
also received the Kurt Salmon Associates' Annual "CFI Award" for
consumer-focused innovation.
