BOMBARDIER ADDS NEW CUSTOMER IN JAPAN WITH CRJ SALE TO
JAL'S DOMESTIC ROUTE CARRIER, J-AIR

JANUARY 21, 2000
TORONTO, ONTARIO--Bombardier Aerospace has made further inroads to
the Japanese airline industry with the sale of two 50-passenger
CRJ200* Series regional jets to Japan Airlines' domestic route
carrier, J-Air. J-Air, a new customer for Bombardier in Japan,
holds options on an additional three CRJ* aircraft.

JAL is the country's largest airline. J-Air, its wholly-owned
subsidiary, is based in Hiroshima and provides domestic services
in southwest Japan.

J-Air currently operates five 19-seat turboprops that have become
too small because of growing load factors on the airline's route
system. The CRJ will give J-Air more efficient, high-speed
aircraft to provide additional frequencies for more profit
potential. J-Air will use its CRJ200 aircraft to serve routes
where passenger load factors do not meet the capacity of its
larger jet aircraft. As well, J-Air will open new routes with its
CRJ200 Series aircraft.

"Strategically, this is an extremely important sale for us," said
Steven A. Ridolfi, president of Bombardier Aerospace, Regional
Aircraft. "We have seen tremendous success in the North American
and European markets with the Canadair Regional Jet(r) while our
market forecast points to an increasingly important market in the
Asia-Pacific region - most notably in Japan."

Bombardier's regional aircraft, both Q* Series turboprops and CRJ
Series jets, are now on order or in service with six operators in
Japan. Those six airlines have ordered and optioned a total of 21
aircraft comprised of 12 Q Series turboprops and nine CRJ jets.

Bombardier Aerospace, a unit of Bombardier Inc., is the world's
third largest civil aircraft manufacturer with operations in three
countries. Leading the 20- to 70-passenger regional carrier
market, Bombardier Aerospace offers complete families of turboprop
and regional jet aircraft. It has the industry's widest range of
business jets, offering both full and fractional ownership, and
also produces firefighting/maritime mission aircraft. It provides
technical services, aircraft maintenance and pilot training to
business, regional airline and military customers.

Bombardier Inc. is a Canadian corporation active in the fields of
aerospace, rail transportation equipment, recreational products
and financial services. It operates plants in 12 countries in
North America, Europe and Asia, and more than 90 per cent of its
revenues are generated outside Canada. Bombardier's revenues for
its fiscal year ended January 31, 1999, totalled Cdn $11.5
billion.
