There needs to be an expectation of an earnings surprise. The revenue growth of ATHM is fairly predictable. Do you see much upside potential there? Maybe a little.

I wouldn't expect any downward surprises. But, I'm having a problem with the goodwill charges, nearly $500 million worth. It's not like these charges are reducing earnings by 5 or 10 cents per share - more like $1.35 per share. This pushes out real positive earnings until 2001 (if they don't incur any more charges).

Hi Ed, Where's the pre-earning's runup?

Now we know. Many still regard this stock with trepidation.

Earnings, as Eric and many others have said, repeatedly, are not a surprise with ATHM. This is not bad, but with the market perceptions of the day, it is not helpful to our shareholder value.

The rumors were a shot in the arm, but with Armstrong's comments about being surprised with the AOL/TWX deal they certainly made no sense because deals take time to conceive, negotiate if feasible and execute.

I am hopeful BB fever will begin this year, but it may still be early in the game.

I was very optimistic that a pop was imminent this past week.

Now I am a little older, and painfully wiser.

'To be closer to believing
To be just a breath away
On the death of inspiration
I would buy back yesterday
But there's no crueller illusion
There's no sharper coin to pay
As I reach out...it slips away.

Who'll drink a toast with me
To the devil and the deep blue sea
Gold drives a man ...to dream.'
