What about using WEBS for Asian investing? They tempt me but I'm damned if I understand them.

Hi Sun Tzu and thread,

Reading the posts on Internet stocks I have to say I agree, to a point. AMZN, AOL etc have proven they will not rule the Internet forever. I think their potential upside has been capped even in the most optimistic investor's mind.

This is a dead horse, but let's beat it a bit more. Many of the current high flyers are going to be tomorrow's IOM. However, I feel very strongly that those that survive will be the future MSFT of 2000 and beyond. I'm confident that I've found two of them: CMGI and INSP. I play the Internuts, but I LIKE to think I play them wisely. There are too many good things happening with these companies. Will they get caught up in the general Internet mania and carry irrational valuations this year. YES. Do CMGI and INSP actually have a chance to grow into those valuations? IMHO, YES.

Sun Tzu, I know you are a Unix pro so you're in the IT industry. What is your opinion of Fiber stocks and the SAN market? I really like HLIT. Look at their recent earnings. I think they are amazing. HLIT and QLGC are carrying high margin hot products that are going to grow and grow with the continuation of broadband. We've only scratched the surface here. Unlike Internet stocks, this is based on technology that cannot be leapfrogged in six months by a better e-business. I feel that HLIT and QLGC are safe ways to play some explosive growth in a hot industry.

I welcome your thoughts, criticisms, kudos or insults, whatever the case may be.

(by the way, if you were referring to me, I have never followed GERN, but I do like TERN <vbg>)

Regards,
Stuart
