I gave a full-page ad by AIM mutual funds in USA Today to my boss today. Their motto tells us to use discipline when we invest. Their headline said something to the effect that "29 AIM Mutual Funds Outperformed the S&P 500 in 1999." The ad showed the performance of all of them.

What the ad didn't tell us (that I pointed out to my boss) is that about 28 of the 29 funds underperformed the S&P 500 in the past five years.

Since I'm not completely retired yet, my success in the office still rides largely on the investment advice I give my boss. :)
