Their headline said something to the effect that "29 AIM Mutual Funds Outperformed the S&P 500 in 1999." The ad showed the performance of all of them. What the ad didn't tell us (that I pointed out to my boss) is that about 28 of the 29 funds underperformed the S&P 500 in the past five years.

On CNBC, Ken Heebner's REIT commercial, the one with two guys fencing, has one of them tell the other: "Still dissatisfied with your portfolio's performance? My Reit has increased 75 percent over the last 5 years!" If my portfolio had increased only 75% during the greatest known bull market in the history of this galaxy I certainly wouldn't want anyone to know about it.

Since I'm not completely retired yet, my success in the office still rides largely on the investment advice I give my boss. :)

Personally, I think its time to exact a little payback.

As in, "You know boss, (grovel, grovel) I really need to take 3 or 4 days off in early March to attend the Qualcomm Annual Shareholders Meeting. Kind of my little way of giving something back. Know what I mean?"

Hey Mike, I know it's been a tough year, especially since April, so if money is tight right now I'd gladly toss a few coins into the hat to get you to San Diego. Besides, I've never met a carpetologist before. <G>

Aloha, Mike

My wife gave her notice yesterday. Her boss was sure to get my phone number before she left his office. I am expecting an invitation to dinner any day now, to give the barrister some investment "tips". I'll be taking a copy of TRFM.
