Actually I do not see how Rambus could ever be part of this alliance.
Their business is to sell IP, to the PC industry, Communications industry, to any industry finding any interest in its technology.
Why rambus would participate to an alliance for which the target is to develop a new high speed RAM which would be free of any IP royalty. They would then bring their know-how for beans... May be the future will demonstrate I was wrong, but to me Rambus has no interest to be part of it.

More than that the actual lawsuit will be a "live" test of the reliability of the patents registered by Rambus (on SDRAM sure, but also on the RDRAM technology specs probably registered with the same "philosophy");

If these patents are bullet proof it means that to avoid the payment of royalties, the new alliance will have to design "from scratch" a new technology (still possible) and then Rambus will enjoy 10 years without any serious competitors. 10 years during which Alliance's members would have to license RDRAM and invest to produce Rambus parts;

What will be Rambus in 10 years, even in 5, who knows !!Nevertheless we can reasonably imagine that within 2003 (the announced date for a release of the first Alliance's new RAM), Rambus will have developed itself through acquisitions thanks to the HUGE ROYALTIES it will have got from RDRAM became a standard

I would add that this stock is actually disappointing considering all positives news we get.
