Steve, <the joke is the quantity of posts and people trying to prop up intel on the AMD thread, now that there is a real threat from AMD.>

The quantity of pro-Intel posts on the AMD thread has not changed, at least according to my 1.5 years on SI. Why don't you lighten up a little?

As for AMD, they've always been a threat to Intel. 1.5 years ago, AMD supporters were saying, "The vast majority of users out there don't need anything more than an AMD K6-2." They were also saying, "3DNow! will crush Intel's KNI [now known as SSE]." Funny how no one is bragging about the K6-2 anymore. And funny how 3DNow! is quickly entering oblivion, except in the minds of AMD marketing.

Of course, times change very quickly, and AMD might have a very strong year 2000. Enjoy it while you can, but don't think for a minute that Intel is down for the count.

Steve,<<<the joke is the quantity of posts and people trying to prop up intel >>>

Cramer in his TSC column commented on the disappointing market action today and cited a run on Intel based on a false rumor of a downgrade.

I don't for a minute think it is anyone from the AMD thread. Most of the AMD'ers on that thread are techies who comment based on their perceived technical merit - whether real or imagined.

But I wouldn't put it past anyone from the MB thread to spread false rumors. Most of those permabears will not make a dime if and when the big Kahuna develops and the market crashes. Those guys there are not really interested in accumulating wealth. They get their kicks from seeing or wishing stocks or markets crash and lots of people are hurt financially.

The point I'm trying to make here - eventually I will get to the point - is that I respect most of the posters on this and the AMD thread.

I doubt very much that customers of any brokerage house gets as much information from their analysts as we get here from the collective contributions of all those who post here.

It is pretty much like the philosophy behind the Linux OS. The Linux OS program code is in the public domain and rely on the contributions of programmers contributing their efforts toward enhancing the OS for free. Microsoft could never hire enough programmers to compete with a program that is developed in the public domain.

In the same way, no brokerage house can spend enough money doing proprietary research to compete with the public domain research that is conducted on these threads.
