Lee, Dell Math 101.

From the European sales data of 751,000 units.

Percentage of total sales coming from Europe 21 percent.

751,000/.21= 3,576,190 units world wide +-

Dell units last quarter if European percentage didn't change (and it doesn't much) equals 3,576,190 units.

Hi Lee. Maybe I can help here. Dell shipped 3.23M systems worldwide last Q so 3.57M is a Q/Q increase of ~10.5%.

That's not bad or inconsistent with the past and certainly better than last year's 9% Q3/Q4 unit volume growth.

I have been using 3.55M for my low side EPS calculation
over the last few weeks. Dell can hit .21/shr with this
volume if Gross margins get back to 21% or better.

To me the European IDC numbers don't seem alarming. I was suspecting that Dell would have a very, very weak December
due to Y2K. 16% Q3/Q4 growth seems quite healthy. We'll have to wait to see how the other regions fared...
