That is due diligence? How can you ask intelligent questions about the royalty stream when you don't even understand the typical structure of a licensing agreement. Read the SEC filings of QCOM, IDC and many others so you will have an understanding for the way upfront fees include a settlement of past infringement and an advance payment for future usage with a schedule of usage-based payments that kicks in once the upfront payments are used up. Is this difficult to understand. Bill has a good explanation of this commonly used licensing agreement on his web site, if you care to look.
