Michael,

I listened to the VCALL this morning and wanted to remark. This analyst shorted every stock he talked about based on fundamental variables and the current multiple. He stated that SanDisk creates a replacement for floppy discs used in "electronic cameras" or for "taking a picture" of the storage of the internal workings of a PC???

He didn't even know of the one-time gains from the recent UMC merger or that SanDisk is a play on mp3. He also incorrectly predicted 2000 earnings of $1.07/share which is not in line with corporate guidance.

Anyone who follows this Thread knows substantially more than this guy. He shorted SNDK at $83 and is looking at a $22 loss right now going into earnings which may include such things as a confirmation of the JV with Toshiba and a possible split announcement.

His understanding of SanDisk is based on a minimum of knowledge of the company and a purely blinded fundamental approach. Personally, I only use fundamentals as a screening tool. After screening the d.d. is the hardest part of investing. He hasn't done his d.d., that is clear.

I still think SanDisk is misunderstood even by people who consider themselves professional investors.

Mike and Thread,

But this goes in with Aus's comment that SNDK is relatively undiscovered by the analysts. There may be alot of truth to that.

There are also a lot of very bright and respected analysts who have their teeth into SanDisk like Mark Edelstone. I think they refer to him as "The Ax" or "The Hatchet" because of the influence he carries in the tech sector.

Re 'not having a clue'

....The analyst says that SNDK basically makes a replacement for floppy disks...Then he says his company is shorting the stock at I believe he said 83...

What is interesting is, presumably the same level of accuracy applies to all the other stocks he mentions as well. And there is little different from this analyst company to any other, most of them are inept. Just look at the way most of them recommend stocks, which can be summarised as 'sell when its low, buy when its high'. As an example, about a year ago when Oracle was in the 20's or so, many analysts were putting out hold or even sells. When it hit the 80's in December 1999, many of those came back with buy recommendations.

I only started making money when I stopped listening to what so called 'analysts' had to say, and used a combination of my own knowledge and that of many of the excellent people on SI.

Believe it folks, these so called analysts are, by and large, buffoons.
