Do I understand your question correctly? Assuming one has 100 shares of MSFT in Etrade and 100 shares of MSFT in Brown. Then you sell the 100 shares in Brown.

What is the basis for the stock?...Etrade because you have owned it for the longest time. Or is it Brown because you sold the stock in the Brown account.

I sure do hope it is Brown. How could it be anything else?

I plan on doing the same thing but in one brokerage with multiple accounts. I find it hard to believe that there could be any other interpretation....does anyone see this a different way?
