Warning to all on option trading. When I see things like :

<<Your original post was simply a genuine, polite, and friendly reminder that options are not the road to disaster >>

And then I look at SI profiles (of people saying things like this) to see what they put down for number of years of investment experience, etc. ...

I just want to remind people ...

Based on my (now) 25+ years of investment experience (including some time as an options arbitrage trader on Wall Street)

Do NOT kid yourselves into believing that trading options is simple, easy, safe, etc.

It is not.

If you do not really know what you are doing (and, even if you do), chances are -- you will give back most or all of your "winnings" later in your investing career.

Jon.

Darn, there you go changing history again, Jill. The entire exchange began with a question from someone about managing investments in a sheltered account. Since I have experience in that area, I tried to be helpful:

Message 12647740

If you follow the trail of responses, it resulted in my stating with what I thought was obvious humor:

>> I'm new and have not caught on to all the lingo.

Let's see if this helps, Candide:

OT = off topic
IMHO = in my humble opinion
LOL = laughing out loud
ROFLMAO = rolling on the floor laughing my a$$ off
LTB&H = the surest way to grow your portfolio
SHORT TERM OPTIONS = the shortest path to disaster

uf

At that point Poet "thread monitored" me, and began telling me where to put <GG>s:

Frank, regarding your helpful list of acronyms, could this have been what you meant to say:

IMO Short term Options= the shortest path to disaster <GG>

That's your opinion, not necessarily fact. Many of us do quite well with judicious short-term options trades on our gorillas and kings

Now it seems to me that Poet who intruded on my light hearted exchange with candide (which candide seemed to genuinely enjoy even though s/he is an options trader) in a humorless and defensive manner. Perhaps if she had employed some <GG>s or <lol>s I would have gotten a different sense of it.

I just thought I'd set the record straight, as I have seen you use your powerful writing skills to obfuscate in the past, and it was always to my detriment. You and Poet have your own thread (options), and Poet has taken over as hostess on Voltaire's Porch as well, which is a giggle, since I actually started that site as a safehouse for V. It would seem she has enough to do without going around demanding folks put <GG>s in posts that were obviously intended to be funny.

Jill, you are a successful professional writer and I am just a retired amateur investor. In the real world, if a person with a black belt in one of the martial arts attacks someone with their hands or feet, the courts view it in the same manner as if they had used a deadly weapon. Shouldn't there be a parallel in the cyber world?
