Its the mathematical symbol PI. Here's a review "taste" I've cobbled together from a couple of sources. Be forewarned, the movie is very bizarre in many ways, but I love thinking about this type of stuff. If you've ever seen any David Lunch movie (Eraserhead is one...), then this movie has a lot of the same schizophrenic styles. ----------------review 1 ------------ Max is a genius mathematician who's built a supercomputer at home that provides something that can be understood as a key for understanding all existence. Representatives both from a Hasidic cabalistic sect and high-powered Wall Street firm hear of that secret and attempt to seduce him to use the computer for their specific venue. -----------------A second review ----------- In Manhattan, behind six locks, lives Max Cohen, a mathematician and computer whiz. Since staring at the sun at age six, he's had terrible headaches; plus, he can't abide human contact except with an aging professor/mentor, and he's obsessed with finding numeric patterns. His current obsession is the stock market; his theories bring him to the attention of Wall Street traders, who pursue making billions from his formula to predict ANY future event with this "equation for everything". At the same time, he's being pursued by Lenny, a fast-talking Hasidic Jew who fronts for a cabal that wants to rediscover long-lost mathematical mysteries in the Torah. Neither group is benign, and both groups are relentless in their goals, and their pursuit of MAX for his knowledge and invention. Meantime, Max's hallucinations and headaches worsen. Is nature ultimately predicatable, and definable via 1 equation for life and the universe?
