Meathead,

I agree with your reasoning. This quarter is too difficult to call from the outside. INTC 5% unit growth is for the Oct-Nov-Dec period. So are IDC's numbers. DELL's October numbers are likely to be less than otherwise could have been expected due to Taiwan, the Memory price interruption, Coppermine and RDRAM availability, etc.

Thus, Oct and Dec may be the cause of the IDC 3% number.
January being a more normal month should be helpful.
It is clear now that these problems are behind DELL.
DELL is now shipping Coppermine and Rdram with 6-8 day availability. Memory prices are down and availability up.
ASP's appear to be flat to up. DELL may very well still meet or exceed its top and bottom line targets.

I certainly hope they do! If they do, the forward looking statements should be very positive and I would expect that DELL will be capturing significant market share in Q1 and Q2 as it did last year. The introduction of Itanium products should boost ASP and margins. The Rdram-Coppermine products also command a premium.

My guess at this time is that DELL will meet or exceed its targets. My guess is based on the factors above.

I hate being wrong....

Regards,

Jim Kelley
