"But I do believe that a more certain path to those goals would be through some deliberate realizations on their part"

Frank I believe this is what the street is looking for before committing.

"an industry which is now characterized by mediocrity and the abandonment of any further expectations with respect to what is achievable using emerging optical technologies"

IMO this is one of ATHM's lifelines. Because of the so called "abandonment of any further expectations" I feel ATHM will rise even further above the rest. It is the industry that needs to supply solutions but are failing. ATHM can take advantage of this. The big problem I see here is that ATHM is not in charge of their own destiny at present. This has been their downfall and continues to be.

"Home doesn't belong on analog facilities. They shouldn't be sharing the anomalies and pitfalls of another era." "Yet, they are forced to cohabit and be constrained by them."

This has been a known factor from the beginning. What has ATHM done to overcome this down the road? Again a question of clear direction comes into play.

" Home needs to break away on their own, soon. They are the best-equipped company, like no other right now"

Agian a common thread to this theme is ATHM is not in charge of their own destiny. Who is in the drivers seat. So what I gather from this relentless, uneventful stock is that even the technological inefficiencies of ATHM can not hold this stock back. The true downfall of this stock is their lack of leadership. Plain and simple........

Are you suggesting that ATHM become a Terrestrial Internet Trunk?
