I noticed that too. Don't think the numbers wash. AMD shipped 6Mu and Intel probably shipped 30-32Mu. To be sure there is some lag between CPU shipments and PC shipments but the 4-6Mu difference sounds too high.

Chuck, those numbers would indicate there was a surplus of cpu's as opposed to a shortage...would they not?

The discrepancy between #of CPUs shipped and # of PCs sold can be attributed to -

Motherboards with multiple CPUS - Dual, Quad, etc.
DIY market
SD shops
Upgrades
Servers?
Third World PC manufacturers
