OT(somewhat): Curious....why is it threadsters seem intent on bashing other equities in a market sector more than sufficient to support several players? Is it jealousy? Angst? "Team spirit"? What?

I say give it a rest. BLDP, and GLE ain't MY only plays in this sector. I'll bet the same holds true for other players. I say let's keep focused on the cards in your hands; not those in other players.

As for me, although I've a core long term position in BLDP, I just closed out a short position I opened today at ~$72, once it became clear to me that today was all about BLDP retrenching, most probably due to a certain amount of profit taking. This ain't an unhealthy "thang".

And as they say...tomorrow's another day....

John~

<<<When?
It's doable today .... the technology is here. When is it being
'COMMERCIALIZED' is the most important question? Ballard is building a
plant to produce fuel cells in 2003. Global will have theirs operating
in Calgary 'THIS YEAR"!!>>>

ballards plant one will also be online this year....gle's
claim to be operational with a plant and building 5000 units
per year...kind of an insignificant amount

ballards second plant up in 2 years aprox

it them$$$$.

<<<This is a typical stock market craze >>>

seems to be....and the catalyst was the detroit autoshow
where ballard displayed mark 900 and companies had fuel
cell cars present

<<<GLE @ $26.50 is an incredible bargoon!>>>

a stock selling price is that important...what about
technology, backers, financing, sales contracts etc....

<<<Ballard stock is at $112.00 & GLE stock is at $26.50. Should we have
bought Ballard?>>>

i did in 1995
some gle in 1999 just to catch the craze...not for any
other reason...after the dust settles ballard will win out

<<<In January of 1999 Ballard stock was at
$40.00 & today (one year later) their stock is $112.00, a 180%
increase. My congrats to those investors. In January of 1999 GLE stock
was at 80 cents & today (one year later) it is trading at $26.50, a
3200% return. I own & will continue to own GLE$$>>>

well ballard used to be less expensive too....and some
smart people bought it then...made piles of money...sold
some bought some jds really cheap....sold some..etc...

<<<Which stock has the most potential from this point Ballard or GLE?
GLE hands down. 'Market capitalization' of a company is established by
multiplying the total shares outstanding x the current share price.
Ballard is currently valued at $9 BILLION (that's a B). It takes mucho
investment $ to move the stock of a $9B company. Don't get me wrong,
Ballard stock will likely go higher, just not as much in % terms as GLE.
The market cap of GLE is currently only $600 million .... a peanut in
this business.>>>

im seeing this crap all over about market cap...it doesnt
take into account the fact that different companies will
have different markets etc.....people seem to think all
successful companies will have the same market cap...thats
kind of stupid

<<Ballard is always in the news .... where's GLE?>>>

this is incredible...ballard is in the news when it is
announced that another company has bought some cells from
them or they have a production ready model or a car company
has a car equipped with a ballard cell or they are building
a plant...etc...etc....gle was in the news too...one was
they couldnt sell 25 million $ worth of shares they needed
to keep the company above water and that they had to extend
the period required etc....

<<<Always remember, GM is not the only car
manufacturer, McDonalds is not the only burger joint & Coke is not the
only pop bottler!>>>

but you seem to think that gle will be the only fuel cell
manufacturer???

<<<The best investment
will be in the company that has technology that will be priced low
enough for reliable 'COMMERCIAL' production.>>>

this statement is weird cant figure it out...what does
price have to do with reliability?

<<<The PEM needs 'PURE' HYDROGEN to function & there is no infrastructure
in place ie gas stations. It works on 'methanol' but the infrastructure
problem is the same. Any other fuel requires an expensive & bulky
reformer to process the fuel into hydrogen BEFORE it enters the fuel
cell. The SOFC operates on natural gas, gasoline etc. It reforms the
fuel to hydrogen inside the cell using an inexpensive reformer. The
SOFC does not need any changes to the infastucture. IF you're an EXXON,
who are you going to support at the end of the day!>>>

all fuel cells use hydrogen, any fuel other than hydrogen
will have to be reformed...gle's is cheaper ok for now

the infrastructure stuff is crap...lots of companies will
pay to put in infrastructure to sell a product....a tank
that will cost 50,000$ to install will last for 20 years
sounds like hmmmm a mortgage...2000$ a year and you make
money on the sale of a fuel....its called a business
expense

lots of oil companies are more forward thinking than exxon
and have not crash tankers into alaska and are realizing
that they are a fuel(hydrogen) suppliers and who cares
what form of hydrogen you supply...in fact it will be a
growing market segment...growing faster than the shrinking
gasoline sector in a few years

<<<Carbon monoxide is a poison to the PEM & a 'fuel' to the SOFC!!!>>>

note: carbon monoxide is a posion to humans and lots of
other forms of life...so why not stop producing it

what exactly is your love affair with CO anyway?

<<< Where are the likes of Greenpeace when you need them?>>>

wouldnt greenpeace be in favour of stopping the use of
oil and gasoline...why do you think they would be on your
side?

<<<The PEM uses platinum which is more expensive than gold! The GLE-SOFC uses inexpensive stainless steel.>>>

the amount of platinum has been reduce to very small amounts
about 50$ a cell

how much is the cost of the stainless steel?

weighing the environment factors in obtaining the 2 would
be beyond me...platinium is mined and recycled etc...using
energy and creating polution...stainless steel similar
i dont see what the big deal comparing them is though...sounds good though eh..."platinum more expensive
than gold" something they might say on the shopping channel
maybe

<<<The PEM uses a polymer membrane & needs to be protected against freezing. The GLE-SOFC uses ceramics!>>>

ceramics to protect it against melting ..... and whats the
point here?

by the way some high temperature fuel cells have problems
staying together because of the heat...causes breakdown
i cant think of anything were high heat would cause
substances to breakdown over time...even toast can become
inedible if exposed to too much heat

<<<The PEM operates at 80 degrees C and produces 'low' grade heat, useless.
The GLE-SOFC operates at 800 degrees C and produces a high grade heat
perfect for residential/stationary applications.>>>

the use of the words 'low' and 'high' seem to imply
something here...as if high is better than low...hmmmm
well it must be i guess...unless you get to close or have
to cool it down etc....and the heavy wear feature also....

<<<The PEM operates at 50% efficiency compared to the GLE-SOFC that operates at 80%" efficiency.>>>

overall efficiencies have not been established, they would
vary with each application etc...and you have to through in
the fuel used as part of this comparison, i believe, ...
you would use an SOFC maybe because you want to use
beautiful gasoline and because you just love carbon
monoxide i guess......

<<<The PEM starts faster than the GLE-SOFC & is why it is being touted as the replacement for the internal combustion engine (ICE). The PEM costs related to infastructure & and commercial production are prohibitive, in
my view.>>>

the faster start up is not the only reason...otherwise
wouldnt car companies create cars that sensed your presence
and started up as you got closer or something similar?

the slow start up for sofc is just a problem
the infrastructure cost is not credible...its a cost of
doing business that lots of companies will make $ on and
new fuel systems will be phased in overtime...a large city
would need a few fueling stations at first...maybe even
just at the car dealership and of course on major highways
etc....i would put up with the fueling inconvience for a
couple of years to buy a cell car

i think you threw in 'commercial production' to make it
sound better here......any product would be competative
thats the goal and ballard has stated they will reach it
gle hasnt yet

<<<The GLE-SOFC will be used as an auxiliary power unit (APU) combined with...>>>

ballard has also demonstrated an apu....so what

<<<Delphi is the largest car parts supplier in the world & formerly owned by GM.>>>

GM leads no market segment except maybe the crappy car
segment....hey lets put out another one of those sporty
z24's....zoom

GM is also losing market share every year, they spun off
delphi to keep it from spiralling down with it...

president of GM "maybe they can sell some of those crappy
parts to our competition...hehe...then their cars will
breakdown as much as ours and we can tread water in market
share"

<<<It is public knowledge that DELPHI has a development agreement with GLE for the SOFC (April press release).>>>

it is public knowledge that ballard has agreements with
8 of the big car companies and daimler and ford own big
chunks of ballard etc.....

then you go on to talk about tanks and the department of
defense etc....yada yada yada...all real relevant im sure
note ballard has tons of deals that you completely ignore
or worse...why?

<<<I rest my case folks. GLE $300".>>>

buy companies....not stocks...your prediction is of no
value

and this is the wonderful post i was suppose to respond to
what a waste of time.....so you wasted my time ok...im an
idiot

by the way i doubt anybody will read this far down and
they didnt read your initial post either
