Paul - <It never mentions Compaq's declaration that Compaq has the IA 64 Platform of Choice or HP's $2 million hardware and software funding for university/student training.

It seems to have been written under "speculation" of an ITanium shortfall.>

I had thiese types of reservations when I posted the article. That's one reason I characterized it "General Interest".

<However, since Intel has SHIPPED ITanium engineering systems, an IMMENSE amount of VOCAL SUPPORT and COMMITEMENT has arisen from the hardware AND software communities.>

Yes, the article makes no mention of the progress made since first Si.

Paul, can you imagine what Linley Gwennap said in that article? He said that Itanium probably won't achieve more than 30% performance advantage over Alpha, and while that might seem hefty, it won't put everyone else out of business.

Can you believe that coming from a "well-respected" analyst in the industry? "Only" a 30% advantage, he says. Meanwhile, the same guy was going ga-ga over Athlon, but that processor can't even hope to gain a 30% advantage over Pentium III. What a hypocrite.
