Ten, Paul, can you imagine what Linley Gwennap said in that article? He said that Itanium probably won't achieve more than
30% performance advantage over Alpha, and while that might seem hefty, it won't put everyone else out of business.

Can you believe that coming from a "well-respected" analyst in the industry? "Only" a 30% advantage, he says. Meanwhile,
the same guy was going ga-ga over Athlon, but that processor can't even hope to gain a 30% advantage over Pentium III.
What a hypocrite.

By the tone of your post, you are implying that Itanium will be significantly better in performance than Alpha. Is that a safe thing to say? I don't believe we've seen anything about Itanium performance, so this is new territory, as far as I'm concerned. From your tone, I can't complain.

Tony

They don't call him Gwennley Inept for nuttin' !

Besides, He's moved on - left Microdesign to do his own thing.

He will join Nathan Brookwood and Dean McCarrot as the PUNDITS that journalists quote whenever they need a BASH at Intel.
