Stevie Wonder, AMD's 64-bit core isn't going to arrive until late 2001, according to Jerry Sanders himself. By then, the second-generation IA-64 core, McKinley, should be here. Also by then, Willamette and Foster will have been out in the marketplace for about a year, and the Willamette proliferations should soon be released.

Seems like AMD will be a few generations behind by then.

Stevie - Our Own Little Post Counting Den Mother @!
Re: 64 bit..."AMD has Dirk Meyer, iNtel has HP......."

Better tell this to AMD - because it appears that Fred Weber is in charge of the SludgeHumper - and NOT Dirk !

Re: "It cost iNtEL $700,000,000.00 for alledgedly stealing the p6 core
from DEC, "

No it didn't.

Intel bought DEC's $1.2 Billion Hudson Wafer Fab for that $700,000,000 - a pretty smart move by Intel! And that FAB has been producing REVENUE for Intel for about 18 months - making it an EVEN SMARTER MOVE !

DEC got sold to Compaq which has gutted it and the Bozo Palmer - who tried to save his job by suing Intel - is now sucking up to Cherry Sander's back side on the AMD board.

Re: "it's going to cost iNtEL a lot more if they steal the Merced and McKinley from HP"

Intel OWNS the Merced. Call them up - I'm sure they would be pleased to sell you one - if you can afford it !

Merced is a 64 bit EPIC processor that is now in wide-spread engineering sampling.

AMD is now trying to hire engineers to design the SludgeHumper - which looks to be at least 24 months BEHIND INTEL - and SludgeHumper may be two generations in architecture behind Merced/ITanium, assuming SludgeHumper ever gets designed .
