QCOM 3G;

QCOM won the 3G battle over a year ago, IMHO, when ETSI decided to go with a CDMA air interphase technology (beating out what I believe was called a TD-CDMA air interphase which if I remember correctly, was a win for the forces of NOK/ERICY and a loss for Siemans/Alcatel).

Since QCOM has an IPR lock on CDMA, it was just a matter of time before ERICY, and the ITU fell into line.

In fact that's what makes QCOM huge! 2G is divided up among different techs, but once the changeover to 3G takes place, GSM will be using a CDMA air interphase and paying royalties to guess who as a result!

lady,

<< I had read that QCOM's CDMA rights/patents only pertain to the current 2nd generation of CDMA >>

I have seen this expressed on certain threads by a small (although seemingly well informed cadre of posters). I believe this to be patently inaccurate <g>

Some informative posts by Clark Hare or Greg Powell who are well informed on this subject can be searched up on the "S&P 500" thread or in the 20,000 to 30,000 range on the "Coming into Buying Range Thread.
