AvantGo Names Head of Dell Online, Richard Owen, CEO

SAN MATEO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 25, 2000--

Mobile Computing Leader Bolsters Management Team with Key New Hires

AvantGo, Inc., the authority in managing mobile information, today announced that Richard Owen has been appointed CEO, effective immediately.

He will also take a seat on AvantGo's Board of Directors. The company also announced that Felix Lin, former CEO and founder, will remain Chairman of the Board and continue to have an active day-to-day role focused on the company's business and technology vision.

Mr. Owen most recently served as vice president of Dell Online for Dell Computer Corporation, where he was responsible for overseeing the creation and execution of Dell's Internet strategy on a worldwide basis. Today, Dell Online generates over an estimated $30 million in revenue a day. Mr. Owen extended Dell's business model to the Internet through marketing and selling Dell's products and services, as well as providing online technical support and establishing customer loyalty through the Internet.

Mr. Owen joined Dell in 1992 as business development manager for Dell's international business, and went on to fill a variety of roles within the corporation including sales, marketing, service and operations. Prior to heading up Dell Online, Mr. Owen most recently served as General Manager of Dell's Home and Small Business unit in Japan where he resided for three years.

Prior to joining Dell in June 1992, Mr. Owen was an Information Technology consultant with KPMG Management Consultants in London, England, where he specialized in Information Systems planning for financial sector companies.

Mr. Owen graduated from Nottingham University, England with a Bachelors Degree in Mathematics and Economics, and from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Sloan School of Management with a Master of Science in Management.

CPQ earnings should be released after the bell. Hope their poor performance does not bring DELL down. The real news everyone is waiting for is Capellas' conference call. Unfortunately for CPQ, I am seeing a lot of similarities between Capellas and Pfeiffer.
