The immiment 800 Mhz Athlon announcement form HP is really great news. Selling entry level Athlons at Sam's Club without an announcement is one thing, but announcing 800 Mhz Athlon systems is a whole new level of support from HP. This , together with with links that have been discovered on their site, signals that HP plans on adopting the Athlon in a big way. I would guess that HP will sell many more Athlon systems at retail than IBM ever did. And, it may be a precursor to the use of Athlon systems in their business lines -- this news would be second best only to a Dell announcement.

Ruiz is a people person. If Michael Dell had a problem with Jerry, having Ruiz on board could go a long way towards signing a Dell deal. Also, as someone pointed out, with this "new management" announcement, many of the analysts may now find it easier to make positive comments about AMD without feeling like they are losing face.

Ruiz stressed that job one would be to run the organization so that consistent results are achieved. He is right about this and also knows that that is what the analysts want to hear.

Pravin.
