Dear Night Writer: BOY, and I thought we were pissers and moaners!! Go to the Dell thread. Those people know how to piss and moan. They make PIKERS out of us. haha. Its hard for me to believe people get so excited about a one qtr. PRODUCT shortfall, its not as though the potential sales weren't there. JDN

NW: I think it was in a message to you about two or three weeks ago that I suggested that when and if DELL warns it will chose a time to maximise damage to COMPAQ. That may have been unkind. But at the very least, this warning will suck a lot of energy towards DELL tomorrow and may preoccupy analysts when they should be concentrating on COMPAQ. If we were to get any upgrades or bullish statements from anlaysts for COMPAQ would they not come next week after the meeting with COMPAQ has been assimilated?

I targeted $37 for DELL last March and recently in private discussion with a DELL investor said that it was still my target, although recent $40 has been tempting. Given the market reaction after-hours to DELL and the reaction on the DELL thread perhaps it may momentarily dip below that.

All I know is that they blame YK2 and supplies. If that is the gist of it then COMPAQ should benefit from the comparison and even the COMPAQ 3.8 weeks of inventory becomes a plus. But will the market be so rational? Given that we now have most of the computer hardware results it ought to be able to put DELL in context. But will it allow the DELL warning to trigger a broader correction at least in computer hardware stocks?
