Stole this from todays RB Blls thread: By Balexic -- Investors in CKFR are nuts to be selling the stock down today. Does anyone really doubt that EBPP will be a winner? One only has to look at the number of Fortune 500 companies that are jumping on board this new technology, as a good indication of what the future holds. To me it's not surprising that the number of clients for EBPP is not pleasing some investors. For one thing this is still very new technology... it takes time for people to start using it. In some ways things work differently in Canada. For instance, debit card use in Canada took off like a rocket... so much so it surprised the Canadian banks! At one point last year, Canadian debit card transactions in total equalled the total amount of debit card use in the U.S. That is quite a demonstration of how popular debit card use is in this country, considering Canada is ten times smaller than the U.S. I'm sure those figures have changed by now. Another case in point. The @home cable modem service had more customers signed up in Canada last year than in the U.S. Those figures have since changed. Why did this happen... (new technologies being accepted faster in Canada than the U.S.). It's most likely because the Canadian market is smaller, and more concentrated. There are only 6 major banks in Canada that control about 90% of the banking assets. In the U.S. there are thousands of banks. These 6 banks (aka: The six wicked sisters) co-operate on promotion and systems development such as, credit cards, cheque/check clearing, ATM's and soon EBPP. In the U.S. I don't think CheckFree and Transpoint are co-operating on promotion of EBPP. Everyone is working alone, and so it is more difficult to get the message across if everyone operates independently. The same thing happened with the @home service in Canada. Shaw Cable, and Rogers Cable dominate in this country. In the U.S. there are dozens of cable companies. It's harder to get your message across when there are several companies all working independent of one another. It just means that adoption rates are slower. I don't doubt for one minute how successful EBPP will be... and I suspect several on this board feel the same way. We just have to have patients... and don't expect miracles overnight. CheckFree and BLLS are a dam good buy today! Let the smart ones buy in! (Voluntary Disclosure: Position- Long; ST Rating- Strong Buy; LT Rating- Strong Buy)
