Hi ted: Re:"Goutama, this thread has argued for weeks now, whether Intel had enough chips in the channels. Most have taken the side of GTW and now Dell, that they did not get enough chips from Intel during Q4. Intel, on the other hand, has said that they produced a record # of chips and that they simply could not handle any upside requirements. The thread's response is that Intel screwed up and just won't admit it." It's all in the incremental processors! AMD shipped 35% more microprocessors in Q4 than in Q3...Intel shipped 3%(?)more in Q4...Big difference! How come? Intel allocated fab space (25%?)for the PWeeIII 733 which otherwise would have been available for other chips...Nothing but problems with the PWeeIII since end of Q3 as has been pointed out here many times...Not too many PWeeIII's made it to retail...Hence Intel's flat sequential growth in processors... Nothing has happened since end of Q3 to suggest that the competitive gap between the PWeeIII and the spry Athy has narrowed...in fact, AMD now has 800's readily available, while Intel still espouses a some-time-in-the-future competitive PWeeIII...Michael Dell's public stance would seem to indicate he has once again been duped by future promises of a competitive PWeeIII...His private stance, if Dell is to remain competitive, is, I would guess, one of quiet and classy disengagement from Intel! (Let us not forget that disengagement does not come easy given the historical tie)...It may even take a Dell earnings bloodbath next quarter to exact the disengagement, but I would doubt that, as the red financial indicators are already strongly signalling swift disengagement from the "one pony" supplier trap in which Dell currently finds itself. Dell can't afford to be a non-competitor in the top end for much longer!
