I think Dell will announce, but not until they are ready to pull the trigger. Just as with Gateway, I suspect that we will start to see bits of evidence pop up towards the end of the quarter (Athlon related pages in their website, rumors from The Register, ...) that Dell is internally preparing for an Athlon launch. M. Dell will be wrangling with Intel over supply issues and what Intel needs to do to keep Dell faithful. Dell will look at Gateway sales numbers and start to get into some nasty spats with Intel. Intel will resort to rubbing M. Dell's nose in legal papers that they believe commit Dell to use Intel Only. This will forever change Dell's perception of Intel. Thunderbird benchmarks will start to leak out and Dell will start to panic (causing him to make "rash" decisions). With everything in place, Dell will use Intel supply problems in Q1 to finally justify the "strategic" decision to adopt the Athlon -- with systems available in volume in early Q2.
