Fast Food to Get Faster

SANTA ANA, Calif. (Reuters) - Fast food is about to get faster in southern California, where the
car is king, hamburgers are considered heavenly, and speed is of the essence.

Five McDonald's restaurants have signed a deal with a local transportation authority to allow
motorists to zip through the drive-through line without having to stop and pay for their food
cutting 15 seconds off the normal 131 second-wait.

The trick is utilizing the same technology that permits motorists to skip stops on Orange County
toll roads. A transponder on some cars emits a signal to antennae on the toll roads,
automatically calculating the fee. The motorist is then billed.

Now five McDonald's restaurants in Orange County are installing similar antennae to interact
with cars equipped with transponders. Customers using the faster service will be automatically
billed for their food when they receive their statement from the same agency that oversees the
toll road accounts.

Antonio Hernandez, a spokesman for McDonald's, told the Orange County Register the
company believes the time-saving plan, which goes into effect in March, will be a big hit.

``With today's lifestyles, everyone's on the go. If they can omit any time having to wait in the
drive-through line, they would welcome that,' said Hernandez.

I'm still in a daze. I was taken out of JDSU, JNPR, CHINA, ORCL as a result of selling calls that ended up being in the money, which I thought was horrible as of friday. Come monday, and watching the market turn sour, I then thought that it was great, I then went in to buy leaps in qcom, rebuy JDSU and JNPR which I thought was great, but then they all tanked. That's lousy. I should tempered myself and not jump in at the first opportunity.

I have a margin call with schwab (they are gunning for me <g>). Sold some of my other positions, but also chanced this afternoon buying 5 contracts of the Feb 115 and 120 calls each at 5.75 and 7.5 respectively. At this point, what the hell.

If Voltaire is right, I hate to think of what Feb would be like.

hoping for a turn around (SOON).

Voltaire did not give a warning for Jan
The warnings from V and some other people were enough to set me on edge. When a widespread dip appeared Monday I immediately looked for something to sell to get off margin. As it turned out I sold some Dell (since it was still looking shakey) and some QCOM (since I had a nice profit to protect). I'm still taking a beating here, but at least I haven't given to broker a larger club to hit me with.

There's a good chance I will reuse margin to pick up bargains next week, but even as I borrow I make a mental note of "what would I get rid of to pay this off" because when the time comes I don't want to wait an extra five minutes to decide.
