I guess I am retail and fear is an understatement. I feel that capitulation in me. I am seriously trying to figure out what the hell to do. From euphoria on 1/3/00 to despair on 1/28/00. Unreal. Can't sell covered calls. The premium has been zapped by 75%. They are too cheap to sell. Puts are almost at parity (130 puts are at 22 which is 108 on the stock). I guess you could buy them but now if there is a kickback rally (dead-cat bounce), I'd really regret it.

I am thinking of selling my shares and buying July 100 calls. At least the downside would be a little easier to take and if we explode back to the upside in the next 6 months, I won't car about the 15 points i give up in the swap.

I have been in this game for 20+ years and this is the first time I am truly stumped to find a way to protect my rear.

So much for my move to a nicer neighorhood. I needed 190 on the Q to get me there. Truth be told though, I probably wouldn't have sold had this stock gone up after earnings.

You sir, have been a shining example of humanity in a faithless world. I'm sure I would have a difficult time adding any positive insight to what you've brought these boards. Let me just say thank you for your knowledge, courage and selflessness.

I can hold 100 on the Q for a day or two. Dumped 1K shares today. Sold 20 Jan 2001 220's today as well. Got out of margin albeit at a somewhat inopportune time <g>.

Ooops...let me re-phrase that:

Got out of my margin-"CALL"...

Long way from getting off margin...

Retail Fear Day

I should say. The problem is that so many retail investors had margin calls and they wanted to exit with at least their clothes. I know many retail investors got out today because they had to do so. Only the strong remain. Basically, the Houses did a head fake big time to gobble up all the shares.

I just wonder how much of that institutional buying we saw at 120 is going to help us get back there. Hopefully we'll start back there and not have even more sincere retail investors, however strong, like me, and however new, like me, forced out by margin calls. (Thank God for Fidelity and its low maintenance). Clever covers are in order for the hearty. (Where are my battle fatigues?)

Now, if we can just set out scopes (my AK47, or maybe I need an Uzi) a little upward we'll challenge the institutions' line at 120. (I'll use my bayonet.) Onward, boys. 130. Whew!

I'm rambling. But I'm pissed. Where's that Paine
Webber guy. I want to whip him for orchestrating this first great House swindle of the new millenium. Welcome to the Y2K party. It's sure been interesting. But I'm still here. Just a little bit weary. Go Q.

Love to all who remain onboard, Che

When's that next stock split?

I get it! Q didn't announce that much-discussed stock split at earnings. The Houses have been doing it for them. That fart in the wind of 200 on Jan 3 to 100 next week (God forbid!) will officially be a stock split. And who split? All on margin.

I didn't want to post this on that other thread for fear of being bashed. Here on the Porch, anything goes. Isn't that the purpose of the Porch? God love the Porch. I'm going to crawl under it now for safety.

Tokyo, Jan 28, 2000 (AsiaPulse via COMTEX) Snippets: NTT DoCoMo began testing W-CDMA cellular phone technology in Seoul, South Korea on Thursday, company President Keiji Tatekawa announced. Testing is being conducted jointly with local mobile phone company SK Telecom. SK Telecom has not decided on what technology it will use for its next generation of cell phone service, but NTT DoCoMo hopes the experiments will persuade the company to use W-CDMA.

Wishing everyone well,

dc

Tom and All,

Last time we touched $400 ( $100 post split ) everybody was euphoric. Let me ask a question - besides the correction of the market(s), what exactly has changed about the Q since then ? I can't see much. In fact, everyday, the Q looks better and better in my eye's. With this in mind, is it not prudent to take advantage of this "gift" instead of walking around in total despair? I don't know where Q is going short term - the market is so much different now then 5 years ago. Some folks say we may hold at $100, some say we may go below. I have no idea...I think fear alone can bring us down further. There are a zillion warren buffet wannabee's running around with no idea what they are doing. Folks like that are the one's that are buying Q at $160 and selling it the next week at $105 out of fear. This alone makes it so much easier for the Houses to do as they wish. Anyway, The Q at $100 looks very appetizing to me.....and if they want to tank it down to $75 it will look so good I may have to rent an eighteen wheeler, back it up to the Q loading station and fill it to the roof with long shares and leaps.

Anyway, I just find it interesting how euphoria can switch to panic in such a short time...but with the Q, I would expect it to eventually switch back to euphoria, unless the Q story changes.

At this level, I agree with jmac, I will not write any more covered calls on my long shares. I will simply let them sit and ride out the storm. I do have a question for you Tom, and anybody else......what are yall doing with your leaps. I was thinking of selling the 02 150 - 200's and taking advantage of the discount in the 02 120- 140's. Problem is the premium on the 02 200's has been shaved alot, I am wondering if I should just hold them. If I do, it takes away some of my buying power on the 120's. On the other hand, I could take the loss on the 200's which wont hurt at tax time, and then grab the discount on the 120's, and be able to buy more. Anyway, just curious as to what some of you folks are doing. My long shares are staying in the vault at this level, but the option game is one I wouldlike to take full advantage of during this volatility. I did well writing the CC's on my Q up til now and buying leaps, but I will not write anymore CC's at this level. Now I just need to leverage my leap position the best way possible.

All idea's will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Keith
