simonds.

First let me agree with you COM=$. :)

As for WAP. Perhaps my understanding isn't complete. It's my understanding that WAP is a API being agreed to by a consortium of wireless companies. It is not a standard and in fact is a long way away from being submitted to the standards bodies. As an API it allows applications to be written once and applied to a broad range of devices which have OS's supporting the WAP API.

Now, all this said I'll say just one thing and make one comment.
- remember Java?
As for MSFT, it'll just have to go along with WAP spec
I think it would definitely be the right thing for them to do - it'll be best for the consumers. However, we know that Microsoft has never agreed to such a path. If Microsoft wants to play in this space (which it's clear they haven't brought any significant resources to bear - likely to do their efforts on W2K and Exchange) then they can single handedly change the rules.

I don't disagree that PALM has a good lead but complacency has been the downfall of this company so many times in the past one has to keep an "eye on the ball".
