what would be an example of a decent thing these days though ?

Some utilities sell at p/e's that rival their bear market lows. For example, Florida Power & Light sells at an earnings yield of 10%, a dividend yield of 5%, a record of increasing earnings and dividends at a rate higher than inflation in the last few years, interesting fiber optic prospects (valued at zero by the market), interesting renewable resource and free market energy activities (valued at zero by the market), and a cash flow well over 20%. Other utilities are similarly valued. Those in growth states typically have a consistent record of growth above inflation. IMO they are much better holdings than money market funds and bonds.
