Eric L: Since you posted #113 to yourself, I suggest you copy and post on the Q SP 500 thread. Seems like the Q folks should know that there is a CDMA smart card "standard" (?) in process. Did I read that correctly - i.e. that the format is for all technologies GSM, TDMA and CDMA? Also on Japan, thanks for the observation of my interest (hey, maybe I am an Asiacentric among the Eurocentrics I seem to discuss GSM with. Smile) and I found the last link in your post fascinating. To be clear, (as you know really) my limited knowledge is about data in Japan as it relates to CDMA wireless and its rivals (still in early learning stage re smart cards). And DoCoMo is particularly fascinating to me as it seems to have a huge and effective FUD operation (using the Wall Street Journal in particular) - reminds me of a Eurocentric operation which is burned in my memory. Your last link shows that DoCoMo 's plan was to launch WCDMA now - or "early" this year to begin "commercial" operation - if I read the discussion of Malaysian trials of WCDMA correctly. (And as recently as this week the trials of WCDMA by DoCoMo in Korea required a "van" to transport the "termianal" - again if I read right.) Full WCDMA early this year, seems to have slipped a bit as many of these do. 2002 and 2003 seem more realistic, no? (Altho perhaps some non standard and data limited version may be rolled out this year or next for FUD purposes) Enough for now. Do suggest repost of 113. Best as always. Chaz
