Milo, <And as INTEL always told us consumers it is FP that really matters (remember the K6 days). Opening up a Excel speadsheet 3 ms faster cannot be noticed by anyone.>

Funny how I kept repeating exactly that during the K6 days, yet everyone ignored me. Now it seems FP performance suddenly became important once AMD figured out how to achieve it. It just proves the old saying, "No one needs anything faster than what AMD has to offer."

<Athlon is just getting started, with TBird, Spitfire, then Mustang(a newer core), then MP on single Die (K8)>

Last time I heard, Sledgehammer will not be dual-core, at least not in its initial release. Though I'm pretty sure that once AMD finds out just how strong Willamette is, they'll change their plans and make Sledgehammer dual-core from the beginning.

Re: "Elmer you talking about non-real benchmarks.. And as INTEL always told us consumers it is FP that really matters (remember the K6 days). Opening up a Excel speadsheet 3 ms faster cannot be noticed by anyone. FP on the other hand affect 3D rendering/Video Gamers. So people who need to save time are going to Athlon. RDRAM and Integrated Cache is the final evolution of P6. Athlon is just getting started, with TBird, Spitfire, then Mustang(a newer core), then MP on single Die (K8). You have to give AMD allot of credit for these ventures, considering how small the Co. is."

I do Logic and Fault simulation on a regular basis and it doesn't use FP. If it did I'd be happy to know that the CuMine is very competitive with Athlon in FP. You want to run Mutant Alien Blaster (tm EPhud '98) games then stay with your Athlon.

You say that Integrated Cache is the final evolution of the P6 core but you forgot a few things. The cache will get bigger, the speed will get higher and Willy will be coming to a PC near you.

And I do give AMD credit. Athlon is an excellent product. It's just not the superior product some claim.
