Hey HiTech,

1. *.sav are Newport histories of stocks you have deleted. They are kept that way in case of error, if you ever go back to that stock, etc. They can be deleted if you no longer plan on doing anything with them or copied to a floppy.

2. *.npd These are the NOTEPAD files for each holding. They can be printed out separately by using Window's NOTEPAD, WORDPAD or a word processor. They also can be edited with those vehicles.

3. *.hst These are your individual stock HISTORY files. They contain comma delimited information on that investment on a weekly basis from the time you start it through the latest week's data.

4. STOCK.NPT - This file contains the starting information from each stock history plus other data that is necessary for Newport. It is compiled with "End Of File" markers that are very important. This is a file that one shouldn't mess with unless you know exactly what you are doing.

I can provide information on just what each segment of the comma delimited files means to the software and you, if anyone is interested. All said, these files are the WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE AND WHY of Newport.

Let me know if you need anything else.

Best regards, Tom
