Long on Fiber found this on Raging Bull:

for you qualcommer's

it has been brought to my attention that three major us telco's are choosing tdma/wcdma over n-cdma/cdma 2000. in fact, you should call investor relations at the q and ask what is going on at ameritech. ask what they are doing with cdma 2000 and all the q phones they have in inventory and have sold! if q doesn't give you a straight answer, call the same office at ameritech. you can call sbc and at&t and find out the same decision--tdma/gsm/wcdma. it's just a matter of time--sell while you are still way ahead and invest in our "baby"!!!! it's our turn at the trough.

The value of QCOM shares has indeed slumped lately, partially due to the slump comments but also due to the general market. Your comments, however, are unduly harsh:

>They probably think of him like many of us that the comments were stupid and hope
he his made to feel the backlash of behaving like an inconsiderate moron with no
regard to his supporting shareholders.

As a shareholder, I would **much** prefer to be told the truth in advance rather than have the rug pulled from under me much later, when the slump shows up on the bottom line. To be told later, everyone, shareholders and analysts, would be screaming how they had been deceived. Confidence in QCOM management would go down the tube and QCOM would have the same problem CPQ now has: trying to rebuild confidence.

Give me management integrity over trying to sweep things under the rug any day.

Lynn

The market was already suffering from a serious decline without his damn idiotic comments.

Rarely does anything on these boards piss me off, but this thread of thought (or lack thereof) is supremely annoying. What company grew from nothing to the next generation cell phone technology based largely on his managerial and technical skill? Do you really think the employees, many of whom are multimillionaires due to his vision, and in it for many years, are going to get uptight over what the stock does in the next month or two? Did you really think the stock was going to keep going up, up, up without a pullback? (I have no beef with short time horizon margin investors EXCEPT when they think a company should be managed to satisfy their needs.) What do you suggest he do when he knows that the next quarter is going to be weaker than the last? Lie? Perhaps(!) his language choice could have been better, but did you complain when you first heard it. No, because you didn't know it would have such an effect (and of course the tanking of the entire stock market had nothing to do with Qualcomm's drop); the stock market is fickle, and not entirely predictable. I am very glad he's in charge, and not you.

If you want to criticize Dr. J, do it with some substance. No whining. Respond however you want. I've just found my first ignore.

Clark

Advice, Change your tag, or I think the whole Internet will put you on Ignore, based on that post.

His comments remind me of Balmer's comments. It took several weeks for those comments to wear off even though the company repudiated them within days.

behaving like an inconsiderate moron with no regard to his supporting shareholders.

Did you even listen to the conference call? Did you miss IJ's comments about carriers wanting to move to 1X as quickly as possible? That we're about to see "very rapid acceleration" of 1X worldwide. That the "slump in a sense" (not "slump" -- the comment was in relation to the previous holiday quarter) was due to seasonality (duh), temporary inventory rebalancing and transitions to new chipsets. (Guess those carriers must be pretty eager for 1X.)

Did you miss this: "The wireless Internet will really hit in 2001" leading to "many new uses for our chips" including putting CDMA on the motherboards of computers.

Did you miss 70 million CDMA phones in 2000? The high percentage of design wins for MSM 3000 and 3100, and that they are gaining share? And that IJ foresees that Q will roll out MSM 5000 before others even have MSM 3100's capabilities?

Some moron.

<Can you imagine how he must feel walking down the hallways of QCOM HQ and passing employees, knowing what they are thinking of him at this time? I know that he's lost a lot of money here, but think about the employees who've lost a significant portion of their savings/lifestyle because of those words. Morale must be in the basement there, which is not good for the company. And what must the board of directors be thinking? Yikes!<<

They probably think of him like many of us that the comments were stupid and hope he his made to feel the backlash of behaving like an inconsiderate moron with no regard to his supporting shareholders. The market was already suffering from a serious decline without his damn idiotic comments.

I didn't hear the single word, 'slump' which was apparently in a moderating context. Neither do I care about going to listen - it was obviously a trivial comment.

Your comments are, to me, simply amazing. I can't believe that somebody would write that, or even think it in passing.

I hope you have got a BIG margin at $180 or so.

Some people feel gratitude to Dr Jacobs and surprisingly, don't think of him as 'an inconsiderate moron' making 'damn idiotic comments'. Those appreciative people do not think your comments have any validity at all.

Then again, maybe you have an odd sense of humour or irony, as some say I have!

Mqurice

PS: Maybe I should just not visit this Qualcomm/TA discussion. To discuss the single word 'slump' in so many posts and for days on end is simply amazing. It really is incredible...oh well...I better go....

I just noticed some other replies to you. I think you better read up a bit on Qualcomm....shaking head in disbelief....

Frank Alias Morris the Cat. You are a moron. Do you really buy this slump line? I have some swamp land in Arizona to sell you. Little has changed with QCOM and what has changed is mostly for the better. The recent and upcomming news is and will be positive. The Conference Call simply gave an excuse for a long awaited retrenchment. The powere that be in the securities industry have largely failed to profit from Q's rise. They have gushed red on calls written and the stock went through the roof without them having inventories to sell. I am sure they are puting Q in inventory and hoping for a few weks free of nwes that will senf QCOM back past $150.
