Iridium's operating statements for m/e 12/99 are on line at
ecf.nysb.uscourts.gov

Revenues increased from the previous month by 210K$, (or about 15%) to 1.49M$.

This doesn't compare to favorably to expenses of nearly 113M$, essentially unchanged from previous month. Even before depreciation expense, they would show about a 41M$ loss.

Reorganization expenses increased 3M$ in November to 3.4M$

I love your Service Rollout Report. A great substitute for the endless stream of obfuscation and doubletalk emanating from Globalstar HQ. Please keep up the great work!

Service Rollout Status

Time for the fourth monthly Service Rollout Report

Because it's not clear what Globalstar means, exactly, by "soft" rollout, friendly user tests, limited commercial service, full commercial service, etc, I've been tracking the rollout of service according to the following definition: "in service" means that an unaffiliated person may purchase and/or legally use the phone in at least parts of the country listed and get service from the GW listed. This means essentially that at least part of the country has to be within range of a known-to-be-operating GW and the country must have licensed the service.

By "country" I use same format as the 65 listed on the GLP home site as starting service by April 2000. And include places like Gibraltor, San Marino and Vatican City.

By the above standards I estimate GWs and countries in service as shown below

M/E, GWs, Countries
11/30, 2, 10
12/31, 5, 29
1/31, 8, 33
2/29, 12, 47

Gateways added since last report:

Location, Reference
Finland, PR dated 9February
Venezuela, PR dated 15February
Argentina, Local press dated 26February
China, Globalstar Northern Europe web site

It has to be noted that only "pre-commercial" service seems to be available from the Finland, Venezuela and Argentina gateways. And the exact status of the China GW is difficult to assess from web based investigation of local newspapers and SP sites. Ditto the S. Korea Gateway, which was nevertheless specifically identified in the January prospectus as providing "billable service."

Countries added since last report:

Country, Reference
Belgium, G*PR dated 2Feb
Finland, G* PR dated 9Feb
Venezuela, 15 Feb news articles
Columbia, 15 Feb news articles
French Guiana, 15 Feb news articles
Suriname, 15 Feb news articles
Martinique, 15 Feb news articles
Guadeloupe, 15 Feb news articles
Guyana, G* PR re: Venezuela opening
China, G* Northern Europe Website
Argentina, LaNacion news Article
Uraguay, LaNacion news Article
Paraguay, LaNacion news Article
Chile, Licensed, per TESAM Argentina website

A number of the 65 countries listed on GLP web page as having "coverage" by April 2000, are apparently not yet in service, including Russia, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, and Ukraine as well as countries in Central America and Northern Europe.

On the other hand, there's reason to believe service may be possible in several countries not listed among the 65, including Yugoslavia, Macedonia, Hungary, Bosnia, Egypt, Columbia, Guyana, Suriname, French Guiana and the French Caribbean

Updates and comments on the above list, which I'll continue to update monthly, will be appreciated.
