Rich Sulpizio's comments from today's Banc of America Securities Technology 2000 conference:

CDMA to outpace GSM

Qualcomm Chief Operating Officer Richard Sulpizio said CDMA technology will continue to grow rapidly as a percentage of GSM subscribers shrinks. He added that after 2002 there will be more mobile users than fixed-line users. Speaking about the company's CDMA technology deal with China Unicom, he said the Chinese company expects to sign 10 million subscribers in 2000. Sulpizio said Qualcomm expects to announce wireless chip sets, as well as a forthcoming chip with Bluetooth wireless features, as part of its third-generation technology. Additionally, the company says it will focus on reducing operating expenses.
