Dr. J on CNBC:

Did anyone else take notice of him saying that other carriers not currently using CDMA will be soon?

Also, it should be pointed out that Dr. J. stated that China Unicom plans on being able to support 10 million users this year, not that they would sign up that many. Still, we should should be seeing some announcements of infrastructure deals of huge proportions soon. So, even if China Unicom can only sign up a million people this year, isn't that gravy? Y2K+1 should be a banner year.

BTW, I don't understand why people seem surprised (not SI readers) about how soon this took place. I thought Dr. J. was trying to say that the deal was imminent on the conference call but was playing his card close to his chest. I get the same feeling about a joint GSM/CDMA venture and some other big news. Nokia or T perhaps?
